State BOE to recognize Barkley Bridge

The Alabama Department of Education is planning to recognize Barkley Bridge Elementary School for earning its National Blue Ribbon School status earlier this year.

At a work session planned for Thursday at 10:30 a.m., the Alabama State Board of Education will consider a resolution in recognition of the Hartselle school for receiving the designation. The resolution is being introduced by Tommy Bice, deputy state superintendent of education instructional services.

Barkley Bridge Elementary School in Hartselle was one of five schools in Alabama and 305 in the nation to be named National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of Education based on their overall academic excellence or for their success in closing achievement gaps.

The U.S. Department of Education will honor all of the 256 public and 49 private schools with their National Blue Ribbon awards at a conference and awards ceremony in Washington D.C. Nov. 14-15.
