Plainview holds third reunion

Nancy Busby
Special to the Enquirer

The third Plainview School-Wide Reunion was held Saturday Night, July 23, at Hartselle United Methodist Church.

Doris Anders Jernigan is the Plainview School committee member of the year.

It was attended by approximately 150 alumni, family and friends and catered by The Freight House in Hartselle. The Fellowship Quartet provided entertainment.

Awards were given to the alumnus who traveled the longest distance, youngest male and female and the oldest male and female.

Plainview School was built and opened for school in January 1937. It was closed as Plainview School in May 1978. Plainview was renamed as Sparkman School on Alabama 36 East of Hartselle.

Twenty-one of our alumni passed away since we had our last reunion in July 2010. We counted back and the youngest if they started to school when they were five would be 39 years old this year.

Our youngest attending this year’s reunion was 45-year-old female and a 47-year-old male. Our oldest male was 86 and oldest female was 86.

Door Prizes were given. Memorabilia was left on the tables for all to bring and view. There was lots of fellowship, fun and food.

Call Hoyt Cheatham 256-565-1539, Levada Lemmond Knox- 256-773-5126, Dianna Atkins Gurley-256-778-8432 or Kenneth Taylor-256-773-4276 if you have comments or you would like to serve on the committee for the fourth Plainview School-Wide Reunion.

The Plainview committee member of the year is Doris Anders Jernigan.
