Blood donors needed for summer months

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is in need of blood donations especially donors with Type O blood.

With schools closed and donors on vacation, recruiting blood donors is most challenging in the summer. The need for blood, however, doesn’t take a summer vacation. About 1,000 donors are needed every week to meet the needs of area hospitals.

Anyone 17 or older, or 16 with parental permission, weighing a minimum of 110 pounds and in good health may be able to donate. A photo ID is also required.

There are several LifeSouth locations across North Alabama including: in Huntsville at 2801 Westcorp Blvd and 101 Sivley Road (inside Huntsville Hospital) and in Decatur at 2349 Danville Road SW, Suite 120. LifeSouth also has several blood mobiles at convenient public locations on a daily basis. Please call toll-free 888-795-2707 or go to www.lifesouth.org to find a blood drive near you.
