City to spend $532,204 on street repaving

By By Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Hartselle City Council has decided to remove more than $300,000 from the General Fund to help finance a major street resurfacing project.
The governing body voted unanimously at its April 22 meeting to spend $532,440 to resurface all or parts of 30 badly worn streets. Of that amount, $91,143 will come from the city’s gasoline tax fund, $133,744 from the State Capital Improvement Fund and $307,318 from the General Fund.
The work will be done in June by Wiregrass Contracting Co., the successor to Shelby Contracting Co.
The move was made after Mayor Dwight Tankersley went to the council with a recommendation to resurface 12 streets at an estimated cost of $224,669.
The streets to be resurfaced are listed as follows:
Lane Road, Douglas Street, Paul Street, Pike Street, Beverly Street, Ashworth Street, Penn Circle, Hammitt Street, Rhodes Street, Washington Circle, Cooper Lane, Lindsey Lane, Ausley Bend Road, Dogwood Circle, Scott Drive, Edgewood Street, Milner Street, McGaugh Street, Simpson Street, Logwood Street, Colonial Drive, Holloway Street, Gable Street, Lindsey Drive, Larkwood Circle, Sunshine Street, Crestline Circle, Tunsel Road and Oak Lane.
