Loyd Price Shelton

Funeral for Loyd Price Shelton, 86, of Somerville will be Thursday (today), Mar 20, at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Owens and Chaplain Rich Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Shelton died Monday, March 17, 2008. He was born January 9, 1922, in Lawrence County to Olan Pulaski Shelton and Gracie Daniels Shelton. . He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was an employee of Alabama Hosiery Mill in Decatur. He retired from the State of Alabama Grain Inspection Office in Decatur in 1984. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, playing Rook and watching the Atlanta Braves.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dollie Atkins Shelton, a son, Allan Price Shelton, two brothers, Jerry V. Shelton and Ennis D. Shelton. and a sister, Alma Shelton Powell Dunn.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Shelton Cooper and husband Barry; two sisters, Bertha Shelton Garner Thompson and Earline Shelton Hardin and husband Edsel; two grandchildren, Tara Kay Cooper and John Loyd Cooper; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be John Loyd Cooper, Phillip Gurley, Joel Gurley, Bobby Shelton, J.W. Atkins and Charles Atkins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edsel Hardin, Lamar Atkins, J.C. Atkins and Steve Parsons.
The family expresses its appreciation to Susan Brasher, Carol Parsons and Hospice of the Valley for their loving and compassionate care. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
