Methamphetamine lab found in Eva

By Staff
A report of a man injured by a gunshot led to the discovery of a clandestine methamphetamine lab in Eva earlier this week.
According to Sheriff Greg Bartlett, 911 received a call Aug. 13 around 1 a.m. reporting a man had been shot on Gum Pond Road. The man claimed he had been shot by Julius Carrol "Buddy" Martin, 56, of 497 Martin Road in Eva. The man was taken to Decatur General with non-life threatening wounds and it was later determined he had not been shot.
Deputies went to Martin's home and found evidence of a methamphetamine laboratory. Agents with the Morgan County Drug Task Force were called and later served a search warrant at the home and a Drug Enforcement Agency cleanup crew was called to process the scene. No one was home at the time of the search. During the cleanup process, Jeffery Turner, 36, and Michael Posey, 33, both of Cullman, arrived at the scene. Turner was later charged with illegal possession of prohibited liquor and Poster was charged with illegal possession of prohibited liquor and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia. Turner was given $300 bond and Posey received a $600 bond. Sheriff's officials said numerous felony charges were pending in connection with the meth laboratory.
