May 3, 1957-Noojin Walker, veteran pharmacist, is now employed at People’s Drug Co. as the colleague of prescriptionists John and Louie Houston, store owners, and L. N. Whitman.
May 4, 1957—Romer Hall, 51, Falkville 1, died today at Block-Chandler Hospital from injuries received in an accident at Turney’s sawmill east of Somerville yesterday morning.
May 5, 1957-Winners of the attendance contest sponsored during the past month by the MCHS Student Council are junior, Coach Myers’s homeroom, and senior, Miss Lizzie Reed Penn’s.
May 5, 1957-The Squad Leaders Club of MCHS has announced the most outstanding girls in P.E. Saralene Bridges was chosen from senior high and Peggy Prince was picked from junior high.
May 6, 1957-It was “graduation day” at this afternoon’s monthly meeting of Hartselle Elementary PTA. The ceremony was primarily for the moms and dads of the sixth grade pupils. The Rev. R. Alex Adams, past president, gave the devotional and Prof. F. E. Burleson, school principal, also gave a talk. Susan Barnes, Jane McClanahan, Frances Woodall, and Edna Carol Roberts, four graduating girls, sang “Graduation Day.”
May 6,1957-Army 1st Lt. Hugh H. Pattillo, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Pattillo, recently completed a 34-week officer advanced course at the infantry school, Fort Benning, Ga. Lt. Pattillo is a 1951 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
May 7, 1957-The Morgan County board of education voted tonight to accept a bid of $42,000 from Stone Construction of Decatur to build a band room at MCHS and a cafeteria at Hartselle Elementary. These two projects will get underway tomorrow.
May 7, 1957-The Rev. William L. Carden, new minister at Hartselle First Baptist, spoke to the Kiwanis Club tonight.
May 7, 1957-Ann Hoffhaus, the daughter of Enquirer editor and publisher Jack Hoffhaus, is valedictorian of the 1957 graduating class at MCHS. Two other young women, Betty Wagnon and Saralene Bridges, tied for the salutatorian position.
May 8, 1957-Hartselle movie fans have a final chance to see a true movie classic, “Casablanca,” starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. It’s showing at Decatur’s Roxy Theatre.
May 9, 1957-The senior class of MCHS staged the first performance of “The Senior Spectacular of 1957” tonight.
A welcome was given by the class president, Bowes Channell, and then an opening chorus was sung by the 75 graduates.
