Final games:
Class 3A, Area 11
Hanceville boys 37, Danville boys 36
Danville couldn't hold on to a seven-point halftime lead in a tough finish at the Area 11 championship in Good Hope Monday evening.
The Hawks, who won just two games during the regular season, entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed and opened with an upset victory over Good Hope. Lighting appeared as if it would strike twice as Danville led 36-32 with less than a minute remaining.
Rodney Hall, who led Hanceville with 22 points, hit a three-pointer to cut the Danville lead to one point and on their next possession the Hawks turned the ball over on a traveling violation. Hanceville's Gregory Dulz hit two free throws to put the Bulldogs in front but Danville still had its chances to win the game.
Danville's Ethan Roberts missed a long-range shot and an attempted putback at the buzzer also wouldn't fall.
Zack Orr led Danville (3-22) with 17 points and Roger Smith added nine. The Hawks travel on the road to face Winfield Friday night in a sub-region game.
Class 4A, Area 15
Lawrence County boys 76, Priceville boys 60
The Bulldogs dropped the championship game at the Area 15 tournament to host team and top-seeded Lawrence County, a team Priceville beat 62-60 during the regular season in Moulton.
That defeat, Lawrence County's only area loss of the season, spurred the Red Devils to a balanced attack where four players finished in double digits. Lawrence County led 39-28 at halftime and outscored Priceville 23-11 in the third quarter to put the contest out of reach.
Josh Bedwell led the Bulldogs (15-17) with 25 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double performance. Korey Christy and K.C. Green each added 10 points for Priceville.
Lawrence County (22-9) was paced by Myles King's 20 points.
Priceville will travel on the road to face No. 2 Madison County in a sub-region game Friday evening.
Semifinal games:
Class 3A, Area 11
Danville boys 55, Good Hope boys 53
The Hawks chose an excellent time to pick up their third win of the season.
Danville's Zach Orr stole the ball and scored a basket with seven seconds left to lift the Hawks to a win over host team and top-seeded Good Hope Friday.
Orr came up just short of a triple-double, finishing with 28 points, 11 rebounds and nine steals. David Long added eight points and nine rebounds and Roger Smith had seven rebounds for Danville (3-21).
Jamie Eppery led Good Hope with 18 points.
Class 4A, Area 15
Priceville boys 57, Fairview boys 49
No. 9 Fairview limited Priceville's star guard Josh Bedwell to 11 points, but Andrew Johnson and the rest of the Bulldogs picked up the slack as Priceville opened the Area 15 tournament with a victory Friday night at Lawrence County. Fairview swept the Bulldogs during the teams' two regular season matches.
Johnson led Priceville with 13 points and JaColby Reid added nine for the Bulldogs (15-16), who advanced to face Lawrence County in the final.
Class 2A, Area 15
West Morgan boys 65, Falkville boys 55
Falkville opened the game hot from the three-point line and built up a 13-4 lead midway through the first quarter but West Morgan battled back and the Blue Devils led just 31-30 at halftime.
The Rebels took over in the second half, ending Falkville's season in the semifinals of the Area 15 tournament at Tanner Friday night.
Senior Heath Alford led Falkville (13-12) with 19 points, followed by Joseph Lacy with 13 and Thomas Holt with 10.
Micah Randolph led West Morgan with 19 points.
Class 4A, Area 15
East Lawrence girls 61, Priceville girls 57 (OT)
Allison White had 16 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs and Keila Hamlin added 14 but Priceville fell in overtime in its Area 15 opener at Lawrence County Feb. 8.
None of the Lady Bulldogs were seniors this year.
Class 2A, Area 15
Tanner girls 68, Falkville girls 28
Alesia Smith led Falkville with 11 points as the Lady Blue Devils were knocked out of the Area 15 tournament by the host team Lady Rattlers Feb. 8.
