Funeral for James C. Turney, 88, of Falkville, will be Thursday (today), April 13, at 1 p.m. at Gandy’s Cove United Methodist Church with the Revs. Walter Jury and Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Cook Cemetery.
Mr. Turney died Monday, April 10, 2006, at his home. He was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Morgan County to Guy Walker Turney and Florence Baker Turney. He was a retired farmer and also retired from Wolverine Tube as a press operator after 26 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wilkes Turney and Thurman Turney.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Nell Dutton Turney; a son, Don Turney and wife Linda of Falkville; two daughters, Jean Alford and husband Julian of Fultondale and Ginger Hume and husband David of Falkville; two sisters, Marie Hammon of Decatur and Norma Jean Long of Hartselle; a brother, Donald Dean Turney of Falkville; six grandchildren, Rene’ Patterson and husband Mark of Lawrenceville, Ga., Randy Alford and wife Susan of Mt. Olive, Jeff Turney of Birmingham, Chris Turney and wife Shannon of Falkville, Mark Hume of Birmingham and Brian Hume of Falkville; seven great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Nicole Patterson of Lawrenceville, Ga., Seth and Alex Alford of Mt. Olive, Jordan Turney of Hartselle and Benjamin and Lucas Turney of Falkville.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Gandy’s Cove Community Watch.
