Dora Drake Johnson

Funeral for Dora Drake Johnson, 98, of Hartselle will be Thursday (today), Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at Hartselle Church of Christ with Michael Johnson officiating.
A graveside service will be Friday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Johnson died, Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Nov. 4, 1907 in Morgan County to William F. Drake and Lelia Walling Drake. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Euclid Johnson; a son, Carl Johnson; a grandson, David Johnson; three sisters; and three brothers.
Mrs. Johnson received a teaching degree from the former Florence State Teachers College and taught with her husband in Morgan County in the 1930's. She gave up her teaching career to rear her children and support her husband's various business and occupational pursuits. She continued to substitute teach in Hartselle for many years and worked for the home extension program.
In addition to being a wonderful mother and loving wife, Mrs. Johnson was a member of Hartselle Church of Christ where she taught Bible classes for many years. She also helped the needy, encouraged the downtrodden and fervently supported the spread of the Gospel.
She is survived by a son, Charles D. Johnson and wife Mary of Hattiesburg, Miss.; a daughter, Carolyn R. Johnson and husband Gene of Decatur; a sister, Flora Tidwell of Austell, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Keith Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Gene Parker, Bill Kelly, Doug Burleson and Gary Drake.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Balcom, Loy Greenhill, Dee Proctor, Theron Drake, Charles Stidham and Hoyt Nelson.
