Garbage pickup changes on tap

You may have heard the old saying "garbage in, garbage out." It's the in part – namely what items are placed curbside for pickup – that is prompting changes in how the city will handle the "out" part.
The city will take over garbage collection and yard waste pickup Feb. 13. In the past, many residents placed various loose items out for pickup. Now, many items will only be collected if they are placed inside the 96-gallon garbage containers or in the smaller recycling containers.

The city will begin delivering the new containers Jan. 23. The containers are city property and should stay with the house if the resident moves.
