Tigers open area play with sweep

The Hartselle Tigers won their 5A, Area 15 opener over the Russellville Golden Tigers on Tuesday night. They then won the nightcap in a regular season game.
Hartselle 6, Russellville 2
Tiger senior Andrew Reeves won his fourth game in five decisions this season as he scattered five hits and allowed only one earned run.
Reeves threw the full seven innings, while walking one and striking out 11.
At the plate, Justin Hargett, Jordan Parker and Seth Watson all went two-for-three. Hargett had a double and a RBI, while Watson doubled twice.
Justin Youngblood had one hit and one RBI, while Chris Wiley had a RBI single. Michael Scott and Kris Berry had one hit each. Berry drove home two runs with a double.
Hartselle 16, Russellville 0
Chris Russell and Cody Stisher combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Tigers completed the sweep of the Golden Tigers.
Russell threw four innings, walking one and striking out five, while Stisher threw one inning and struck out one batter.
Joe McClanahan and Bruce Kimbrall led the Tigers' offense with two hits each. McClanahan scored two runs and drove in three with a double, while Kimbrall scored one run.
TJ Long had a hit and a RBI, while Wiley had a double and scored twice. Hunter Corum had a hit and scored one run, while Hunter Brasher had one hit, scored one run and drove in two.
Alex Thompson had one hit, two RBIs and scored one run, while Cline Thompson scored one run on one hit.
Hartselle 9, Clay-Chalkville 1
The Tigers handed the Class 6A's top ranked team its first loss after 14 straight wins.
Chris Russell threw five innings of five-hit ball, while striking out eight batters and allowing one earned run. Zach Smith pitched two innings of no-hit ball to complete the victory.
At the plate, Hargett had two hits and drove in three runs, while Ja'Cote Ward, Parker and Watson had one hit and one RBI a piece.
The win improved the Hartselle record to 13-6 overall.
Spain Park 3, Hartselle 0
The Tigers lost the second game on Saturday to another 6A opponent.
Watson threw four-and-one-third innings of three-hit ball, but took the loss as he allowed all three Panther runs. Watson struck out five, but was touched for two runs in the fourth inning when he allowed a lead-off single and home run.
Reeves pitched two-and-two-thirds innings. He allowed two singles and struck out two.
At the plate, Ward, Wiley, Berry all had singles, while Parker had two hits including a double.
Hartselle slipped to 13-7 on the year.
Austin 2, Hartselle 1
Zach Moore threw a complete game and stuck out five, but took the loss when the Tiger defense allowed two unearned runs to score. At the plate, Maze, Hargett had singles, while Watson and Brasher each had a double. Alex Thompson had the Tigers' RBI.
Hartselle 7, Sinclair High, Canada 2
Andrew Reeves picked up his fifth win of the season as he struck out six in six innings of work and allowed only one earned run.
At the plate, Hargett, Wiley, Watson, McClanahan, Brasher and Parker had one hit each. Brasher and Parker drove in two runs each.
Hartselle improved to 14-8 this season.
