Funeral for Ollie Camp, 90, of Hartselle was Thursday, April 3, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brooks Barkley and Phillip Hines officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mr. Camp died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Franklin County to Loyd Amos Camp and Carrie Josephine Riddle Camp. He was a graduate of Arab High, attended college at UNA in Florence for two years and Auburn University for two years majoring in Secondary Education.
He began his life's career in Morgan County where he taught in the Morgan County School System for seven years. In 1952 he entered the business field in Hartselle as a Petroleum Jobber with Shell Oil Company where he retired in 1977.
He was one of the original organizers of the American Bank &Trust in Hartselle (now First Alabama Bank) where he served as Chairman of the Bank's Board of Directors for 20 years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartselle, where he had taught a men's Sunday School class and was the second President of the Men's Brotherhood in 1955.
He was active in the Civic and Community Affairs. He was a member of the Hartselle Chamber of Commerce and served as President in 1956. He was a life member of Kiwanis International and was past President of the Hartselle Club and served as Lieutenant Governor of Alabama District One in 1977-1978. He served on the Hartselle City Council from 1956 to 1960. He was listed in Who's Who in the South and Southwest in 1973-1974.
He was an avid flyer and airplane pilot. He helped in obtaining the Rountree Field. He was a member of the Airport Board and served as chairman for several years. He was also on the Hartselle Industrial Board, the City Library Board and The Station Board. He chaired several annual Clean-up Campaigns for the City of Hartselle. He and his wife were world travelers and had visited all the continents with the exception of the Antarctic.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Camp of Hartselle; one daughter, Carol Camp of Franklin, Tenn.; and one sister, Hattie Padgett of Arab.
Pallbearers were Original Directors of the First Alabama Bank, Hartselle.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church and members of the Hartselle Kiwanis Club.
