Play it safe this holiday season

By Staff
Staff reports, Hartselle Enquirer
Every week, people in Morgan County lose everything they own in house fires.
In addition to helping with the family's immediate emergency needs, food, clothing, and shelter, the American Red Cross with the help of our community, provides "comfort kits" to each family member.
A comfort kit is a bag containing those items a person would immediately need if they had to leave home in a hurry. Groups and organizations can help by sponsoring a collection drive for specific items and by packing the bags. The Morgan-Lawrence County Chapter will provide the bags.
Each of the adult must be complete with all of the following items: razor, travel-size shave gel, shampoo, toothpaste, soap, adult-size toothbrush, lotion, deodorant, tissues, wash cloth, and comb. Each of the children's bags must be complete with all of the following items: travel-size soap, shampoo, toothpaste, youth toothbrush, wash cloth, comb, crayons, activity/coloring book.
To prevent house fires this holiday season, the American Red Cross suggests the following:
Be aware of overuse of electrical outlets. Don't overload your electrical outlets. Be careful of extension cords that present hazardous walkways.
