Davis signs with GSCC

Amanda Davis has an impressive resume.
She's been named to five all-tournament teams, earned spots on the All-County and All-Area teams her junior and senior year, and was an Honorable Mention for All State her senior year.
No wonder Gadsden State jumped at the chance to have the Brewer senior.
Davis, a 5-5 setter, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Gadsden State next year.
"I'm very excited," Davis said. "I wanted to go to Gadsden State to begin with."
Perhaps Gadsden State's excitement grew with each line on Davis' resume.
Her team took first place in the Alabama Sports Festival in Mobile and was on the Brewer-Pepsi 16-team championship squad.
Not to mention she was a part of the Lady Patriots' Morgan County Championship team and Area Championship team.
Things happened quickly for Davis following the 2002 volleyball season. She tried out and immediately was offered a scholarship by Gadsden State that afternoon.
"Everything is paid for except my dorm room," an elated Davis said. "I had decided that the first school to offer was the one that I was going to. Plus, coach Vice and McCarley are really good coaches. Coach Vice is nice and real good about encouraging her players."
Volleyball runs in the family. Her sister, Lindsey, just finished her final season at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.
Big sister didn't try to suade Davis one way or the other.
"She's just real excited for me," Amanda Davis said. "She told me that (Gadsden State) was a good place to go."
Amanda Davis did try out at Wallace State, but had already accepted the scholarship offer from Gadsden State when WSCC called.
Amanda Davis also explored her options at Northwest Shoals Community College before deciding Gadsden State would be where she called home for the next two years.
Her mom, Susan Davis, said she is proud for her youngest daughter.
"It's going to be difficult," she said when asked how she was going to handle having her youngest leave for college.
She must be proud of her, as Davis' abilities do not stop on the volleyball court.
She holds a 3.95 GPA and ranked 14th out of 226 seniors.
She is unsure what her Major will be at Gadsden State, but said she thinks it might be nursing.
