A Look Back

May is graduation month.
1955-May 2, Scotty Stone is a spring graduate of William and Mary. He will soon go abroad for a two months' stay in Switzerland as part of the Experiment in International Living program.
1940-May 3, Merrill Doss will graduate from the University of Alabama following a six-year program combining business and law studies.
1943-May 4, Pvt. Walter P. Newman, Jr., Route 2, Hartselle, is part of the shop course graduating class in the engineer school at Camp LeJeune Marine Base in New River, N.C.
2000-May 5, Twins Janet and Jenny Foote were born on April 12, 1982. They will soon graduate from Falkville High School as valedictorian and salutatorian, with only one grade point separating them. They both will attend UNA on full-tuition scholarships this fall.
1958-May 6, Max Merrill, a graduate of Morgan County High and now a senior at the University of Alabama, has been chosen advertising manager of the Crimson-White student newspaper for the year 1958-1959.
1980-May 6, In 10 days 221 Hartselle seniors will receive their diplomas at Morgan County High School's 69th and final graduation exercise. The school's name officially changes to Hartselle High School August 1.
1951-May 7, Jack Brock Long, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grady Long, will be among those to receive diplomas soon from Marion Military Institute at its spring graduation exercises.
1927-May 8, Kindergarten began this week in Hartselle under the direction of Mrs. Gilman C. Doss.
1933-May 8, A graduating class of 236 members at Alabama Polytechnic institute will receive diplomas Tuesday morning, May 16, in Langdon Hall. A Bachelor of Science in agricultural education will be awarded to Hartselle's John Cooper Sloan at that time.
