Reclassification brings change to local schools

The Alabama High School Athletic Association recently unveiled the 2024-26 winter sports classifications and realignments. Change is coming for local teams as each school will see a change in one form or another.

For Hartselle, the change comes in the form of new teams in their area and an old foe leaving it. Decatur, Muscle Shoals and Athens will join the Tigers in a new-look 6A Area 15. Cullman has been shifted out of the area and into one with Jasper and Mortimer Jordan.

Change comes in a big way for Danville and Priceville, as both will be moving up in classification. Danville is moving from Class 3A to 4A, while Priceville is going from 4A to 5A.

Danville, which has been in Class 3A since 2020, moves back to 4A, where it played from 2014-20. The Hawks will be joined by East Lawrence, Good Hope and West Morgan.

Priceville moves to Class 5A after 18 seasons in 4A. The Bulldogs will move into an area with rival Brewer, Ardmore and East Limestone.

The complete area list for local teams for 2024-26:

Class 2A, Area 11: Falkville, Cold Springs, Winston County.

Class 4A, Area 13: Danville, East Lawrence, Good Hope, West Morgan.

Class 5A, Area 16: Ardmore, Brewer, East Limestone, Priceville.

Class 6A, Area 15: Athens, Decatur, Hartselle, Muscle Shoals.
