Hartselle tennis teams win sectionals for first time in school history

The Hartselle boys’ and girls’ tennis teams won the AHSAA 6A Section 7 tournament last week. Both programs’ wins were the first in school history. Chris Pressnell coaches the teams.

The boys scored 61 total points in winning the championship. Muscle Shoals and Decatur rounded out the top three, with the Trojans scoring 32 and Decatur scoring 26. Hartselle won the number two, three, four, five and six singles titles while sweeping the doubles titles. They finished runner-up for the no. 1 singles. Winning titles were Landon Robinson, Ben Carnes, Nolan Sparks, Marc Cera, and Sam Stone. Reid Collins finished runner-up. Doubles teams were Robinson/Carnes, Collins/Sparks, and Cera/ Zeke Priola.

The girls won the sectional title with a score of 44, edging out Muscle Shoals (36), Madison Academy (31) and Decatur (25). The girls also number two, three, four, five and six singles titles. They won the three doubles titles and finished as runners-up at the no. 1 singles and the no. 1 and no. 2 doubles. Winning singles titles were Avie Broom, Eleanor Vest, Kate Wilbanks, Lily Reese and Miller McLeod, while Vest/Reese won the no. 3 doubles title.

The teams will travel to Mobile for the 6A state championships that begin April 25 at the Mobile Tennis Center.
