Crestline Elementary named Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School

Crestline Elementary School has been named a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School by Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc.

School Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed was informed of the recognition Wednesday by phone call.

Crestline principal Robin Varwig said she and the school staff were excited when they found out about the distinction today. All three of the school system’s elementary schools have now been named Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Schools.

“It really reflects well on our teachers and our level of education that all three of our elementary schools are Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence,” Varwig said.

F.E. Burleson Elementary School and Barkley Bridge Elementary School received the designation in 2011 and 2010 respectively. When Burleson received its notification last fall, Crestline was already completing the documentation to submit to Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.

Varwig said officials from Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc., visited the school in February. She said they were very complimentary during the visit, especially toward the school’s parental and community support.

“We have outstanding support our parents,” Varwig said. “They were just amazed to see how many visitors we had and the number of people that volunteer at the school. They were impressed to see how much involvement we have from our community.”

The school will have a celebration at the beginning of next year since Thursday is the last day of school. Varwig said the school wants to celebrate the achievements of the students on the last day instead of having a big celebration for the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School at this time.

Varwig said this recognition is something they set their sights on a while back.

“It just gives us that pat on the back to affirm what we already knew about our schools,” Varwig said. “Our focus is on the children and what we can do to help them learn. We’re not going to stop. We’re going to keep going.”
