Nail leads HHS at state golf tourney

Heather Nail shot a 75 to help Hartselle take a 19-shot lead during the Class 1A-5A Girls State Golf Tournament at the Robert Trent Jones Grand National course in Auburn Monday.

Nail had just three bogeys on the day and held par on all other 15 holes. She even hit par on the 11th hole, which played the toughest for all all golfers.

She holds a one-shot lead over Athens’ Michaela Williams, who had a 76 despite getting two of the tournament’s six birdies. Williams, however, had four bogeys and double bogey.

Arin Eddy came in fifth overall with +9. Beth Ann Compton was tied for sixth place at +13. Kaylon King was tied for eighth at +18.

Overall, Hartselle shot a 241 on the first day. Alexandria is second with a 260 followed by Bayside Academy with 269.

The teams will compete in the second round on Tuesday.
