Charles Clemons knew it was going to be a good day for fishing.

Moments into the Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association tournament on Pickwick Lake, the Tiger bass fishing team had already caught a 4-pound fish.

“Before we ever got our boat in place, we saw a fish move on the top of the water,” said Clemons, the sponsor of Hartselle High School’s bass fishing club. “We put a lure on a fishing line, put it in the water and caught it.”

Adam Allen and Bobby Puckett took home first place by catching 17.15 pounds. Justin Mayfield and Jamo Maxwell had 12.79 pounds for 13th place. Garrett Jones and Joseph McAnally caught 9.1 pounds for 31st place. Brantey Wiley and Tom Chapman had 1.17 pounds while Drew Copeland and Grant Shelton had 0.93 pounds despite boat trouble.

That puts Hartselle 8 points behind Hayden for the team title with only the state tournament remaining.
