Morgan County Schools Foundation seeks funding

The newly organized Morgan County Schools Foundation kicked off a fund drive by recognizing its first major contributor at a Morgan County Board of Education meeting April 12.

Priceville businessman Lonnie Williams presented Foundation President Cheryl Burns with a check and wished the foundation well in its fund-raising efforts.

“It’s a great thing to do and we’re glad to be apart of it,” Williams said.

Burns thanked Williams and asked board members to consider Williams’ donation as a challenge and participate in the foundation’s Power of 100 fundraiser.

“Our first goal is get 100 school system supporters to donate $100,” Burns pointed out. “$10,000 would be a good start for the foundation. ”

Central Office Director Anne Vest introduced Burns and other foundation board members at a work session preceding the board meeting.

“The foundation has tremendous potential for our school system and its students,” Vest stated. “We thank the school board for its support and are excited about getting our fundraising efforts under way.”

Director Kim Dillard added, “We’re a booster club for curriculum. We want to fund “Leader in Me” from kindergarten up,” This program is based on the “7 Habits of Effective People and is already being implemented in some of our elementary schools.”

Other foundation board members are Laverne Foster, vice president, Joseph Wynn, Richard Sparkman, Phil Waldrep and Kerrick Whisenante.
