Lady Tigers finish 4-2 in own tourney

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers won four of six games in the Tiger Classic Friday and Saturday but had to settle for second place as they lost to Austin 3-0 in the championship game.

The four wins give the Lady Tigers a 20-4 record on the season. Austin finished the tournament with a 13-3-2 record.

In the six-inning championship game, Hartselle out-hit Austin 6 to 5 but was unable to produce a run.

The Lady Black Bears went up 1-0 in the first inning, scored another run in the second inning and added their final run in the fourth.

Ashley Boggs and Baylee Holt each had a pair of singles to pace the Lady Tigers at the plate. Leah Stephenson doubled and Emily Nix singled.

Austin’s Allie Garland and Mallory Malone each singled twice and Sydney Dishman had a double.

Brittany Bishop was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on six hits while striking out two batters. Kayla Faulk picked up the loss. She allowed five runs on five hits while striking out two batters and walking one.

The Lady Tigers advanced to the championship game by defeating Lawrence County 3-2.

Faulk paced the win at the plate with a pair of singles. Olivia Golden and Baylee Holt each singled.

Jada Hayes was credited with the win. She gave up two hits while striking out two batters and giving up three walks.

Hartselle 4, Boaz 0

The Lady Tigers combined strong hitting and pitching to blank Boaz 4-0 in the opening round of pool play in the Tiger Classic Friday afternoon.

Nix and Holt each had a double and single and Boggs, Hayes and Madaline Sittason each singled.

Hayes was the winning pitcher, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out eight and walking three.

HHS 3, Guntersville 1

Hartselle edged Guntersville 3-1 in Friday night’s final pool game.

Boggs led her team in hitting with a pair of singles while Hill, Holt and Faulk each singled.

Hayes was the winning pitcher. She allowed one run on three hits while striking out eight batters.

Lawrence County 2, Hartselle 1

The Lady Tigers dropped a hard fought battle to Lawrence County 1-2 in the final pool game Saturday morning.

Trailing 0-2 in the bottom of the sixth and final inning, the Lady Tigers pushed across one run with one out and had the bases loaded with two outs before a pop fly ended the game.

Holt led Hartselle with a pair of singles while Faulk had a double.

Faulk was the losing pitcher. She allowed two runs on four hits while striking out three batters and walking two.

Hartselle 17, Decatur 0

Faulk pitched a no-hitter against Decatur in the second round of pool play Friday night. She allowed no hits while striking out three and walking two in a four-inning game.

Hartselle collected 13 hits. Olivia Golden had a double and a pair of singles, Allie Hill hit a home run and double, Boggs, Faulk and Stephenson each doubled and Nix and Battles each singled.
