Mortimer Jordan 61, Brewer 53

The North Jefferson News

After being down as many as 11 points in the second half, the Patriots climbed back and Joey Lawrence tied it at 51-51 with 2:31 left.

The teams traded baskets, then with :43.1 left, Jordan guard Tyler Pelkey nailed a 3-pointer from the corner for what proved to be the game-winning shot.

On the ensuing possession, MJ point guard Mark Louis stole the ball in front of the Brewer bench, was fouled and hit a free throw at the line. That was all the Blue Devils needed as they hit their last four foul shots to win.

Brewer ran out to a 20-7 lead in the first period, thanks to five 3-pointers, but Jordan applied pressure from Louis, Pelkey and Marquis Dobbs in the second to take the lead with 1:10 left in the first half.

Jordan plays Athens in the Northeast Regional next Wednesday at Wallace State-Hanceville.

Brewer: Brandon Elder 13 (3 threes), Jeffrey David 12, Westin Pritchett 8, Joey Lawrence 6, Garrett Tucker 5, Cody Benitez 4, Kyle Speegle 3, Austin Morris 2.

Jordan: Tyler Pelkey 29 (12 each in 2nd and 4th quarters), Mark Louis 17, Ben Hardiman 7, Connor Moon 4, Luke Agnesia 2, Seth Barnett 1, Cole Woodward 1.

Fouled out: Lawrence, Speegle. Technical fouls: None.
