Leada Gore, Hartselle Enquirer
A Hartselle woman who knew JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect John Mark Karr in high school said she was shocked when she saw his face splashed across television screens around the world last week.
Karr was one class ahead of Hampton at Hamilton High School.
Hampton said Karr was known for his flashy car - a DeLorean – and as an active member of the band.
Hampton described Karr as well-spoken and well-dressed.
After hearing news reports about strange messages Karr wrote in Hamilton High yearbooks, Hampton said she called home and asked her father to check her book.
News reports said the ransom note found at the home where the 6-year old was killed contained the initials “S.B.T.C.” Hampton said message in her yearbook includes the phrase “I shall be the conquerer.”
Hampton said she was not convinced of Karr’s guilt.
