Joseph Hitt of Courtland would like to personally thank the Hartselle man who found his wallet on June 14 and returned it by mail with all of its contents, but doesn't know how to reach him.
"The wallet was returned by priority mail and arrived at the Courtland post office on Saturday (June 17)," said Karen Hitt, Joseph's mother. "There was no return address, only the postmark, '176 Hartselle, AL.' A note inside suggested that he (Joseph) get rid of the $2 bill, or at least cut off all the corners. It was signed good luck, Keith."
Hitt said her son lost the wallet somewhere in Decatur, probably either in the vicinity of the BP plant, where he worked on a job, or at Jack's, where he ate lunch. "He wasn't as concerned about the $10 it contained as he was his drivers license and other personal items," she said. "It would've cost him $25 to have his drivers license replaced."
"Whoever found the wallet and went to the trouble he did to return it is to be admired," Hitt said. "He could've stuck the $10 in his pocket and thrown the wallet in a trash can. But instead he took it to the post office and spent $4 of his own money to return it by priority mail. This restores my faith in the honesty of people."
