Tigers look to make history

By Staff

The numbers in the Hartselle-Walker football series aren't pretty. The Tigers have one win, 11 losses and there has been one tie.
The one win came in Hartselle, so the Tigers will be attempting to win in Jasper for the first time ever this Friday night.
History doesn't really matter, because this is the first time the Tigers have traveled to Jasper with a chance to clinch a home playoff game.
The Vikings started this season with a 4-0 record and were ranked as high as No. 9 in the ASWA 5A poll. Walker now has a 5-3 record after falling the past two weeks to Russellville and Athens.
Should the Vikings win and Russellville top Athens this Friday, a three-way tie would result for second place in region 8.
The tie-breakers are so complex that we don't have enough space to discuss them.
The simplest way for the Tigers to finish second in the region and assure themselves a home playoff game, is just win.
A historic first victory at Walker would render the tie-breaking procedure meaningless.
I'm expecting Bob Godsey and his troops to make history this week.
So somebody call the maintenance crew over at JP Cain Stadium and tell them to turn the sprinklers on and trim the grass.
The field will need to be ready for Nov. 12 when Hartselle has another home game, this one in the opening round of the state playoffs…Tigers 31, Vikings 10
Vinemont (5-3) at Danville (7-1)
The Hawks are upset after losing for the first time last week. Vinemont needs to win to get into the postseason. I don't think they'll will…Hawks 27, Eagles 6
Oakman (4-4) at Priceville (2-6)
The Wildcats are coming in on a high after scoring four touchdowns in the final five minutes to whip Cold Springs.
Priceville has lost two straight tough games, this will be the third…Wildcats 28, Bulldogs 17
Lamar County (6-2) at Falkville (0-8)
The game is a match-up of the first place and eighth place teams in 2A, Region 7…Bulldogs 31, Blue Devils 17
Curry (1-7) at Brewer (0-8)
This is a match-up of two teams who have struggled all season long. Both are winless in 5A, Region 8 play. The winner will escape the region cellar.
Brewer can end its 20-game losing streak…Patriots 24, Yellow Jackets 20
Auburn (8-0) at Ole Miss (3-4)
Can the Rebels derail the Tigers in their quest for an unbeaten regular season? If you think so, you must be a really big Crimson Tide fan…Tigers 34, Rebels 13
