Young pups did some growing up

By Staff
Charles Prince, Sports Editor
The Hartselle football team features so many new starters the Tiger coaching staff has taken to calling them "the young pups."
Those young pups grew up some last week in an emotional comeback win over Austin.
The young squad was down by 14 points, twice, but they came back to tie the score on the first occasion and take the lead on the second. Then the young defense made a four-play stand from the four-yard line and later came up with the game saving interception. Confidence grew, players matured, and challenges were conquered. The young pups started to come of age.
Curry at Hartselle
The challenge now is for the Tigers to forget the Austin game and concentrate on the future. I'm confident Bob Godsey will have his squad focused on the Curry Yellow Jackets this week, as they open Region 8-Class 5A play. Curry is coming off a 34-0 win over Carbon Hill. The visitors will be playing their first 5A game ever. They won't enjoy it…Tigers 27, Yellow Jackets 7
Brewer at Russellville
Coach Billy Coleman's Patriots came up just short last week and the losing streak has reached 14 games. Coleman has the Pats playing hard and he says it will take a perfect game on Brewer's side to win. Russellville will be looking to bounce back from a 10-point loss to Deshler. Look for the home team to bounce back…Golden Tigers 34, Patriots 14
Danville at Sulligent
The Hawks' defense stole the show against Falkville last week. They face another set of Blue Devils in Sulligent. A team coming off a 36-point loss to Hamilton. Look for a second straight win for Danville…Hawks 20, Blue Devils 0
Falkville at Cleveland
The Blue Devils go on the road this week after last week's home loss. Cleveland trailed Locust Fork 42-14 before rallying for 29 fourth period points and a 43-42 win. Falkville should have an easier time scoring this week, but not enough to pick up their first win…Panthers 34, Blue Devils 27
Priceville at Lamar County
The Bulldogs are coming off a huge opening win over Hanceville. This week they open region play against another set of Bulldogs. Lamar County lost a close one last week to Class 1A South Lamar. Look for the home team to drop it's second straight…Priceville Bulldogs 27, Lamar County Bulldogs 3
Louisiana-Monroe at Auburn
Tommy Tubberville and the Tigers have an open date disguised as a game this week…Tigers 45, Indians 0
Utah State at Alabama
Year two of the Mike Shula era will open this Saturday in Tuscaloosa. Shula says he's concerned about youth at receiver and the team's depth. Neither concern will matter this week…Crimson Tide 31, Aggies 6
