An elderly couple who live on Main Street believe two men posed as good Samaritans to gain access to their home and private savings.
Hartselle Police Department Sgt. Justin Barley said a report was made Saturday on the 1300 block of Main Street that two men, posing as a preacher and an employee of the federal government, gained access to the home by telling the couple they could make free repairs to the home.
Once inside, the residents believe the two men stole $1,628 in cash while taking measurements of the rooms.
Barley described one of the men as being in his 50s with gray hair and a stocky build. The other man was described as younger with a small build.
No suspects have been identified.
The names of the victims have not been released.
According to Barley, no other similar reports have been made. However, Barley encourages Hartselle residents to report any suspicious persons or events to HPD at 773-6534.
