Writer grateful to live in Hartselle

I wanted to write and let you know how proud I am to live in Hartselle and have a paper that is still for the people and to tell you how thankful I am that our paper can still print obituaries in the paper without charging the families.
My father passed away in February and it cost me $80 just to print the least amount of words I could get in letting friends and family know of his death.
I would also like to express thanks to whom ever is responsible for putting the American flag on the water tower. I am just so proud I live in a town like Hartselle.

Sponsors made tournament possible

On July 10-17, Hartselle hosted the 7 and 8-year-old (AA) Alabama Dixie Youth Baseball District One Tournament. This was a 10-team tournament with representatives from Brooks, Muscle Shoals, Underwood, Moulton, Lawrence County, Decatur, Madison (3 teams), and Hartselle. In June, the Hartselle Dixie Baseball Program submitted a bid to host this tournament and that bid was accepted. The bid was supported by our tournament sponsors: Encore Sports Enhancement, Abercrombie Chevrolet, Eddie Preuitt Ford, SPARTA Inc, Gray Research Inc/GH Systems, Eric Summerford, First American Bank, SouthTrust Bank, Kiwanis International, and Rotary International. This backing made it possible for Hartselle Dixie Baseball to host this tournament. I would like to thank each of these individuals and business for investing in the youth of Hartselle.
For the tournament, Hartselle Dixie Baseball provided a hospitality room to support the Dixie Officials, tournament volunteers, umpires/scorekeepers, and tournament coaches. Pepsi, Subway, Dominos Pizza, Jet Pep Food Mart, Wal Mart, Hardees, McDonalds, Zaxby's, Roosters, and Sonic donated food, drinks, and other supplies for the hospitality room. In addition to this support, many volunteers provided desserts and setup support. The hospitality room was very much appreciated by all of the tournament participants. I want to thank each of the businesses for your donation and each of the volunteers who worked so hard to support the hospitality room.
In addition to the above donations, Nu Image Engraving and Awards donated First Place and Runner-up trophies, JP Sports donated practice baseballs for the 7&8 Hartselle All-Star teams, and Larry's Custom Signs donated a tournament banner. Your support to Hartselle Dixie Baseball is very much appreciated.
Hartselle Parks and Recreation readied and maintained the fields throughout the tournament. Our park is a showcase of Hartselle and everyone was complimentary of the facilities. The P&R employees go out of their way to ensure that this excellence is maintained for each game during the regular season and tournaments. I want to thank each of them for their support and hard work.
The District One Tournament was a big success in large part because of the many volunteers who gave their time to work the gates, coordinate the concession stands, man the hospitality room, setup/loan the pitching machines, serve on protest committees, pick up trash, announce the games, and direct the tournament. Approximately 40 people from all of the Hartselle age groups gave their time during the week to work some aspect of the tournament. Many more offered to help. This support is a testament to the cohesiveness of the community. The desire to support our youth is definitely strong in Hartselle. I thank each of you for your generosity and hard work.
