The Priceville Bulldogs stay in the state playoffs lasted only one game in 2004. Priceville fell to Sumiton Christian 4-0 on Wednesday in the first round of the 2A sub-state playoffs.
The Bulldogs lost, despite not allowing an earned run. Five Priceville errors in the fifth inning allowed all four Sumiton Christian runs to score.
Dustin Hamilton took the loss on the mound for Priceville. Hamilton and Alex Cannon had the only two Bulldog hits. Priceville ended the season with a 19-14 record.
Hawks fall to Glencoe
The first playoff game in eight years for Danville started well, but ended badly, as Glencoe eliminated the Hawks by the count of 11-0.
Danville's Thomas Hopkins singled to center on the game's first pitch giving the Hawks a chance to score first. It would prove to be the only hit of the game for Danville as Glencoe's Robby Davis threw a shutout at the Hawks.
Davis hit a three-run homer for the only runs he would need. Danville ended the season with a 20-13 record.
Local woman win's two Karate tournaments
Melissa Clairday, head instructor at Clairday's Karate Studio in Priceville, took top honors at the Collierville Karate Classic in Memphis, Tenn. on April 3. Then on April 17 she captured the top spot at the Rhonda Alexander Karate Championships in Atlanta, Ga.
Clairday, who is a third grade teacher in the Decatur school system, took first place in both black belt weapons and black belt forms at both tournaments.
Three other members of he Clairday Studio's Karate team won at the tournament in Memphis. They include Meagan Linley, who won the women's division, Jessica Mahathy won the girls youth division, and Dylan Peck took first in boys' youth division.
