Lady Pats win slug fest 14-13

Brewer whips Holly Pond for the second time in three days

FLORETTE – It ain't over till it's over. Brewer proved just how true that adage is by coming back from four runs down with two outs in their last at bat.
The Lady Patriots came up with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to whip Holly Pond 14-13.
The game was a regular season encounter between two teams that had faced off two days earlier in the Brewer Invitational tournament.
Trailing 13-9, Brewer's Mandy Martin walked and stole second base. Megan Brown singled her to third. Brown then stole second base. Erin Holt singled to send both runners home and cut the lead to 13-11. Meaghan Holt followed with a single to put runners on first and third. Andrea Bailey tied the score with a triple to deep center field. Martin walked to put Lady Pats on the corners. Angela Grochowsky then singled home the winning run.
Martin was 2-for-2 with two walks, Brown was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Holt went 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Holt collected two hits and three RBIs. Bailey drove in three on two hits and Grochowsky was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Brown pitched the final five and two-thirds innings to pick up the win for Brewer. Brewer is now 2-8 on the season. The Lady Patriots will travel to Hazel Green March 12-13 for a two-day tournament.
Brewer wins one, loses two close ones in own tourney

FLORETTE – They finally broke through with a win.
The Brewer Lady Patriots won the first game of the 2004 season after six tries with a 10-2 rout of the Holly Pond Lady Broncos in the opening game of the Brewer Invitational softball tourney.

Brewer starter Angela Grochowsky pitched two innings to post her first win of the year.
The Lady Pats scored one run in the first inning and then put four runs across in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Brewer added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Megan Brown, who pitched two innings of relief, was 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in three runs with a double. Mandy Martin went 3-for-3 with a triple and a home run as she drove in two. Andrea Bailey was 2-for-3 and drove in a run with a double. Meagan Holt and Grochowsky each posted one hit.
East Limestone 1, Brewer 0
East Limestone scored the games' only run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Randolph County 1, Brewer 0
The Lady Raiders scored the games' only run on a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Meaghan Holt singled in the top of the seventh with two outs, but the game ended when she was thrown out at second base trying to steal.
