Jones, Norgard lead Lady Tigers to wins

The Hartselle Lady Tigers’ softball team continued their hot start with wins over 5A Hayden and 7A Sparkman last week.

Hartselle 11, Sparkman 9
Hartselle scored six runs in the second and four more in the third to go from trailing 3-0 to leading 10-3 through three innings. They extended the lead to 11-3 with a run in the fifth. The Lady Senators scored two in the sixth and four in the seventh to cut into the Lady Tigers’ lead but fell short.

Kaelyn Jones led Hartselle (7-0) by going 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs and a stolen base.

Katie Norgard was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Katie Gillott had a hit and two RBI. Tiger Howell (2-0) picked up the win after pitching 6 2/3 innings of relief.

Hartselle 8, Hayden 1
The Lady Tigers gave up one run in the top of the first and then shut out the Lady Wildcats the rest of the game winning 8-1.

Norgard went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI to lead Hartselle. Jones and Ryley Cate Wolf each had a hit and an RBI. Jones scored three runs and had two stolen bases, while Wolf scored two runs and had a stolen base. Blayne Godfrey (3-0) pitched a complete game for the win, allowing three hits and a run, while striking out nine.
