Lady Tigers fall to Moody

Hartselle fell to Moody 2-1 Friday night in the AHSAA Class 5A State Tournament.

They will play Mortimer Jordan Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in an elimination game.

Hartselle led for most of the game, but Moody loaded the bases in the sixth inning and tied the game at 1-1.

The Lady Tigers failed to score in the top half of the seventh inning. With runners at the corners, Moody got a deep hit to center field to score the winning run.

During that play, starting pitcher Brianna Riley was hit in the back of the head with a ball, causing her to fall down. There was no immediate word on her condition as of Friday night.

Hartselle defeated Eufaula 13-1 this afternoon in the Class 5A State Tournament.

The Lady Tigers will play Moody at 7 p.m. today. The Blue Devils defeated Hueytown 5-4.

In other Class 5A games, Faith Academy beat Lawrence County 2-1. Chelsea also defeated Mortimer Jordan 3-0. In the winner’s bracket Faith Academy beat Chelsea 1-0.

Loser’s Bracket games:

Hartselle vs. Mortimer Jordan, 9 a.m.

Chelsea vs. Eufaula, 9 a.m.

Hartselle-Mortimer Jordan vs. Chelsea-Eufaula, noon

Loser bracket winner vs. loser of Faith Academy-Moody, 3 p.m.
