6U softball finishes runner-up at AAYS state championship

The Hartselle 6U softball all-stars battled out of the loser’s bracket to finish runner-up in the All-American Youth Sports State Championship gold division in Wetumpka this past weekend.

The young Lady Tigers opened the tournament with two wins on Thursday. They defeated Prattville 14-2 and Marbury 21-10.

In their first bracket game, Hartselle lost 11-10 to Prattville and dropped into the loser’s bracket. The Lady Tigers led 6-1 before giving up six runs in the third inning.

Hartselle bounced back with a 14-1 win over Marbury to stay alive another day. They defeated Athens 20-8 to advance in the loser’s bracket. After defeating Florence 16-6, the Lady Tigers advanced to the loser’s bracket final. They defeated Clanton 15-13 to make it to the state championship game.

In the championship game, the Lady Tigers trailed 6-4 before running out of gas and falling to West Mobile 19-8.

Hartselle’s Jane Randall Lusk was named the offensive MVP of the game.

The players include Alexis Archer, Bella Burkeen, Harper Daves, Amelia Forman, Luca Gordon, Raleigh Ann Gross, Jane Randall Lusk, Chandler Meadows, Tinsley Pearce, Olivia Putman, Livingston Stipe and Ansleigh Tapscott.

The coaches are Chase Lusk, Trai Meadows, Audrey Forman, Emily Stipe and Levi Tapscott.
