Tigers pick up three wins at PBR South Alabama Showdown

The Hartselle Tigers baseball team traveled to the Gulf Coast to participate in the PBS South Alabama Showdown. The Tigers picked up wins over preseason 6A No. 5 Saraland, Spanish Fort and Orange Beach while suffering two one-run losses to 7A No. 7 Tuscaloosa County and 5A No. 8 Gulf Shores.

Hartselle 8, Spanish Fort 6
Coleman Mizell finished with two hits, including a home run and an RBI, to help lead Hartselle to an 8-6 win over Spanish Fort.

The Tigers led 8-2 going into the bottom of the sixth before holding off a Toro’s rally to get the win.

Greyson Howard doubled and had two RBI, while Lawson Williams added two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Cam Palahach had two hits.

Nic Chumley pitched a complete game for the win, allowing two earned runs while striking out five.

Gulf Shores 10, Hartselle 9
A 9-5 lead failed to be enough to hold off Gulf Shores, who scored five in the bottom of the seventh to upset the top-ranked Tigers.

Mizell had two hits and an RB, while Eli Tidwell added a hit and two RBIs. JoJo Williamson, Peyton Steele, Cade Miles and Brody Leathers each had a hit and an RBI.

Landon Blackwood took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of relief. Tidwell got the start and allowed five runs on four hits in 5.0 innings.

Hartselle 8, Saraland 6
The Tigers rallied from a 7-2 deficit by scoring six runs in the final three innings to defeat 6A No. 5 Saraland 8-7.

Palahach had three hits and three RBI to lead Hartselle. Williams added two hits and two RBI. Tidwell, Steele, Mizell and Blackwood each had two hits.

Isaac Nicholson picked up the win in relief. He pitched three scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out four. Greyson Howard got the start, going 2.1 innings before being pulled after allowing seven runs on seven hits.

Tuscaloosa County 2, Hartselle 1
Hartselle gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh in a 2-1 loss to 7A No. 7 Tuscaloosa County.

Cade Miles had an RBI, while Williams, Steele and Mizell each had a hit.

Andrew Coleman took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in 1.2 innings of relief. Jack Smith got the start and gave up one unearned run on no hits while striking out eight.

Hartselle 7, Orange Beach 2
The Tigers scored two in the third and four in the fourth on their way to a 7-2 win over Orange Beach to open the PBR South Alabama Showdown.

Williamson had two RBI to lead HArtselle. Tidwell had two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Mizzell added two hits. Miles had a hit, a run scored and two stolen bases, while Blackwood had two runs scored, two walks and two stolen bases.

Chumley picked up the win after 2.2 innings of relief. He struck out seven of the eight batters he faced.
