Hartselle wrestling has three state finalists, three in top six

The Hartselle wrestling team’s season ended last weekend with three runner-up finishes at the state championships in Huntsville.

Gage Roberts (126), Lincoln Bryant (132) and Payton Roberts (152) finished runner-up for the Tigers. 2023 was the first time since 2005 that Hartselle had multiple state finalists.

Also, a first since 2005 was having six wrestlers place in the top six in their weight classifications. Jameson Falciani finished third at 182 lbs, Jacob Doshier (106) finished fifth and Jackson Schutt (113) finished sixth.

The team finished sixth overall, their best finish since 2015. In addition, they improved by 12 spots over last year’s results.

“I could not be more proud of this group,” Hartselle coach Joe Hill said. We had 10 qualifiers, six placers, and three finalists in the state championships. We also had a third-place finish in the state duals. This group has set the bar high and will continue raising it.”
