Book signing slated for Nov. 17 at Jesse Owens Museum

The public is welcome to attend Dr. Wayne Flynt’s book signing Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Jesse Owens Museum,  located at 7019 County Road 203 in Danville. Flynt is Professor Emeritus in the Department of History at Auburn University.  His research focuses on Southern Culture and Religion, Alabama politics, education reform and poverty. He was the first editor-in-chief of the online  Encyclopedia of Alabama. Flynt has written 14 books, two of which were nominated for Pulitzer prizes . Flynt was a longtime friend of Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird and he gave the eulogy at her funeral. Everyone is invited to come out and meet Dr. Flynt at the Jesse Owens Museum.  

Danville High School news Congratulations go out this week to the Danville High School October students of the month and teacher of the month. The teacher of the month is Tim Hodson and the students of the month are freshman Ty Bailey, sophomore Maddie Sherrill, junior Emily Lacy and senior Lillie Kate Eddy.  

Morgan County Alabama 4-H News  

The Morgan County Alabama 4-H had their Chick Chain Show and Auction and according to Karen Melson, all of the participants did a great job.  

The participants and awards were announced as follows: (Emma Pflueger, 5th in showmanship, 1st in Breed class-Americana, Blue Ribbon Record Book, Kynslie Padilla, 1st in Breed Class, Black Star, 3rd in Showmanship, Blue Ribbon Book, Aubrey Mosteller, Blue Record Book, 4th in Showmanship, 2nd in Breed Class, Black Star, Taryn Miller, Reserve Grand Champion in Breed Class, Welsummer, 1st in Breed Class, Red Ribbon Record Book, Dixie Anne Ward, 2nd in Breed Class, Welsummer, Blue Ribbon Record Book and Colt Gullion, 3rd in Breed Class, Welsummer, Red Ribbon Record Book)   

12 Jars of Christmas announced  

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System Morgan County Extension Office will be holding a class on how to make jams, cappuccino and more Nov. 14 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. There will be a $5 class fee which can be paid at the door.  For more information, please call 256-773-2549 . Everyone is invited to join the Morgan County Extension Office to celebrate the holiday season with the 12 Jars of Christmas .  

Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse news  

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse will be holding fund raiser Turkey Shoots the following dates: Nov. 12, Nov. 19, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10. The location will be 1801 Vest Rd. in Hartselle. All of the proceeds go to charitable work done by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Posse in the  community.
