Salute to Veterans banner program continues for second year

Banners honoring area veterans were hung again this year in Historic Downtown Hartselle in time for this weekend’s Veterans Day parade. City employees installed the banners along Main and Hickory streets this past week.

The Salute to Veterans Banner Program, an initiative by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 52 in Hartselle, honors veterans who are or were honorably discharged members of the Armed Forces with banners displayed downtown.

Banners will be on display on the light poles in downtown Hartselle through the month of November.

“We want to thank the city of Hartselle for taking charge of the installation of these banners,” program coordinator Earnestine Doubek said. Each banner features the individual’s photo, provided by the family or veteran, name and branch of service.

In this second year of the program, the banners purchased last year are up for their second year. New banners bought this year are on display for two years, 2022 and 2023. If after being on display for two years the banners still look respectful, a limited number may be renewed for display a third year for an additional fee.
