Title: “New Kid”
Author: Jerry Craft
Reading level: Juvenile

In this Newberry Medal and Coretta Scott King Author Award winning book, Jordan is your average kid in Washington Heights. He loves to draw and hopes to go to an arts high school. However, his parents decide it’s time for him to start going to private school in a different borough of New York City. At this new school, Jordan is treated as an outsider because he is the new kid and is part of the majority. Throughout the school year, Jordan takes his feelings and issues and puts them into his sketchbook.

This book is perfect for graphic novel lovers. The colorful and insightful illustrations bring the story to life. You can find this book inside the library, on Hoopla and on Libby.
