Strength through Christ

By Todd Barrier

One of my dad’s favorite sayings was pretty simple. We would be doing a task or chore and I wasn’t feeling as though I could do it and I would say “I can’t do it” he would simply reply “can’t never could.” Of course, he meant if I give up, I wouldn’t be able to accomplish the task but I would never know if I just gave up. The same thing can happen in our relationship with God. When things aren’t going well and we think we can’t go on. When the things going on in our life seem insurmountable and we don’t think anything can help us through it. Fortunately for us we have God. With God there is no “can’t never could” because with God we always can. In Phil. 4:13, the Bible reminds us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. With God we never have to give up because with Him, we can.
