‘A very present help in trouble’

By Todd Barrier

In the movie Forrest Gump, there is a scene where Forrest and his fellow soldiers are attacked during their time in Vietnam. During this time Forrest does what he does best, he runs. He runs so far and fast he finds himself all alone in the safety zone. When he realizes his friend Bubba and the rest of the soldiers aren’t with him, he runs back into the war zone and sees his fellow soldiers who can’t lift themselves up or run to safety. He lifts each one up and brings them to safety. This is the type of relationship we have with Jesus. When the enemy attacks and we are in the battlefield of life Jesus will run into the war zone to save us. In Psalm 46:1, the Bible says, “God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.”

When we can’t lift ourselves anymore Jesus does what He does best, he lifts the fallen. In our worst times Jesus is there to help.
