Do you believe?

By Todd Barrier

Over the next several weeks in this space, we are going to look at some fundamentals of Christianity. As we head into a new year, let’s remind ourselves of the basic principles that will help us stay grounded in our relationship with Christ.

This week we look at the foundation of our faith: belief in the deity of Christ.

This is what separates Christianity from other religions – our belief that Jesus, the Son of God, was Himself God in the flesh.

He is described as such in many places in the Bible: John 8:24, “believe that I am He;” Matthew 16:16, “the Christ, the Son of the living God;” Matthew 3:17 and 17:5, “This is my beloved Son;” and other verses as well.

The Bible teaches, and Jesus taught, that we must first believe who He is for our faith to be true. This is our basic building block for other fundamentals.

Next week we will look at belief that the Bible is inspired.

Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God?
