Police nab one for drugs

Special to the Enquirer

A Centerpoint man is in the Morgan County Jail after a May 30 traffic stop allegedly revealed drugs in his possession.

Just after midnight May 30, a Morgan County deputy on patrol in the area of U.S. Highway 231 and Highway 36 in Lacey’s Spring reported a vehicle traveling toward Huntsville in excess of 95 miles per hour. The deputy, according to the MCSO, was able to catch the vehicle in the area of Whitesburg Bridge and initiate a traffic stop.

During the stop, the deputy made contact with the driver, Lanard Ernesto Bonner, 25, of Centerpoint.

According to the MCSO, probable cause was obtained, and the subsequent search of the vehicle revealed crack cocaine, approximately 3.3 ounces of marijuana, two grams of THC and one firearm.

Bonner was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance–cocaine, possession of marijuana, first degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bonner was transported to and booked in the Morgan County Jail.
