Hartselle Enquirer names All-Area softball team

The softball season came to a close recently, ending in what many would call success for every team in the Hartselle Enquirer area. Four teams played in the North Regional, with Hartselle, Falkville and Danville finishing in the top four. Four teams had 20-plus victories, with Hartselle leading the way with 43.

Now it is time to name the All-Area team.

The Hartselle Enquirer All-Area team is led by Player of the Year Karsi Lentz and Pitcher of the Year Blayne Godfrey.

Lentz, a junior, helped lead Hartselle to 43 wins and a third-place finish in the 6A North Regional. She tied the school record for home runs in a season with 17, a record that was set by Kayla Orr in 2007.

Lentz was second on the team with 62 RBIs and fourth with 60 hits. She hit two home runs and knocked in seven in an area tournament elimination game – a win over Muscle Shoals.

Godfrey, a freshman, helped lead Danville to 25 wins and a fourth-place finish in the 3A North Regional. She won 22 games and saved two. She struck out a school-record 356 batters.

She was eighth in the nation and fourth in the state in strikeouts, according to Maxpreps.com. She had a 1.04 earned run average, and opponents hit .204 against her. She also had a .412 batting average with 42 hits, 34 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

She pitched a perfect game, striking out nine, in the Lady Hawks’ 18-0 win over East Lawrence to clinch the 3A Area 15 Championship.
