Falkville earns school record 23rd win with 69-61 win over Addison

The Falkville Lady Blue Devils set a school record for victories in a season with their 69-61 win over Addison in the first round of the 2A Area 13 tournament.

The Lady Blue Devils got 10 points from Makenzie Veal in the first quarter to grab a 21-17 lead. Savannah Fowler added six points. The Lady Bulldogs hit four three-pointers to keep the game close.

Addison hit three more three-pointers in the second quarter as they outscored Falkville 25-18 to take a 42-39 lead into halftime.

The Lady Blue Devils stepped up their play defensively and held Addison to eight points in the third quarter. Veal had eight points in the quarter to help Falkville tie the game at 50-50 going to the fourth quarter.

Sydnee Fitzgerald and Fowler combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter to help the Lady Blue Devils pull away for the 69-61 win.

Veal had 24 points and eight rebounds to lead Falkville (23-8) to the 2A Area 13 tournament finals. Fitzgerald finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. She also scored her 1,000th career point tonight. Fowler added 14 points while Ellie Cate Hill had nine points and Ella Wallace added seven.

Molly Gilbreath and Hadley Batter each finished with 14 points to lead Addison, while Bracie Rodgers added 13 points.

Falkville will travel to Cold Springs for the Area Tournament finals on Thursday. The game will start at 6 pm.
