Cartee leads Hartselle to 40-29 win at Austin

Hartselle improved to 6-2 following their 11-point win on the road at Austin Friday night.

The Tigers grabbed a 7-4 lead in the first quarter that saw both teams struggling to make shots.

Lillyanna Cartee scored 12 points in the second quarter to lead a Hartselle surge that gave them a 23-12 lead at halftime.

Austin cut the Tigers’ lead to seven before a Masyn Marchbanks 3-pointer gave Hartselle a 32-22 lead going into the fourth.

The Tigers outscored the Black Bears 8-7 in the fourth to get the 40-29 win.

Cartee finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, five steals, three assists, and two blocks for Hartselle. Marchbanks added 11 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and two assists.

Hailey Holshouser added 5 points, five rebounds, three steals, and four assists for the Tigers. Alyssa McMinemon had four points, three rebounds, and one block, while Millie Evans added 2 points, three rebounds, and a block. Maggie McCleskey finished with three rebounds and an assist, Emma Roden had two rebounds and a steal, and Gracie Hill had a rebound.

Austin (4-6) was led by Zamyra Goode and Korren Harris, who finished with six points apiece.
