Morgan County Commissioner Randy Vest has been elected the 2020-2021 president of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama, the statewide association representing Alabama’s 67 county governments.  

Vest was elected to the position during the ACCA’s 92nd Annual Convention held this August. 

“The ACCA speaks for Alabama’s 67 counties with a single, unified voice,” Vest said. “When county leaders work together and stand united, our association is strongest and our counties are capable of effectively growing and producing positive change.  

“As we embark on a new year,” Vest added, “my top priorities are to effectively assist and motivate my colleagues in continuing to provide and adapt their critical county services, in addition to their protection of citizens amid the pandemic and to promote and facilitate forward-thinking discussions and plans to allow for the further improvement and innovation of county government operations statewide.” 

Prior to being unanimously elected as ACCA’s president, Vest served as an active member of the ACCA Legislative Committee and as a member of the inaugural class of the association’s leadership program, PLAN, which stands for Passion, Leadership, Accountability and Networking. 

ACCA executive director Sonny Brasfield expressed his confidence in Vest’s ability to serve the association’s membership.  

“Commissioner Vest brings undeniable leadership skills, passion and commitment to the Association and our membership,” Brasfield said. “He understands the intricacies of both urban and rural county governments in Alabama, and I’m certain his unwavering spirit as a county government advocate will serve the association and our state remarkably well.  

“As we continue to work through the trying circumstances of today’s environment, we’re looking forward to a very productive year ‘ahead of the curve’ with Randy Vest as our president.” 

Vest was elected to the Morgan County Commission in 2010 and re–elected in 2014 and 2018. Vest brings with him 30 years as a former small business owner of his family’s automotive repair shop and eight years as a former maintenance supervisor for an industrial coatings facility.
