Hartselle has four players in double digits in 93-65 win over Decatur

HARTSELLE – Hartselle got double-digit scoring efforts from four players in their area win over rival Decatur.

Brody Peebles led Hartselle with 32 points. Tad Sivley added 19 while Kiah Key had 17 and Luke Ward finished with 16. Both Key and Ward set career highs.

The 93 points scored by the Tigers is their highest total of the season, besting the 91 they scored against Priceville in the second game of the season.

Hartselle (17-4, 1-0) knocked down 12 3-pointers while dishing out 27 assists. Both were season-highs for the Tigers. Key and Ward each hit four 3-pointers while Peebles nailed three. Trent Wright handed out seven assists to go with Peebles’ six and Jackson Raley’s five.

The Tigers put together a 26-2 in the first and second period that turned a 6-5 Decatur lead into a 31-10 Hartselle lead just moments into the second quarter.

Peebles, Sivley, Key, and Ward combined to score 44 points in the first half as the Tigers led 46-29 at the half.

Decatur (5-14, 0-1) was led by Kobe Johnson, who finished with 14 points. Smith Coon and Adam Burroughs each added 10 points.

COACH KEY’S THOUGHTS: We feel good to get our first win in area play. We played well at times tonight, but we also made some mistakes that we will need to clean up as we continue to get better.

I am proud of getting four guys in double digits. We did a good job of passing the ball tonight to the open player for easy shots.

UP NEXT:  Hartselle will host Cullman (10-9) on Friday night.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION: The Hartselle boys and girls basketball teams presented a donation to the Instructional Resource Center. The IRC works with special needs students at Hartselle High School. The money was raised from the purchases of court-side seats for the 2019-20 season.
