Teams open area play 

Area play opened this week for area teams, with Brewer hosting Scottsboro while Danville played West Morgan. 

GIRLS 

Brewer 54, Scottsboro 39: Brewer and Scottsboro, which split four games last season, met for the first time this season.  

Brewer jumped out to a 29-18 halftime lead and cruised to the 54-39 victory Tuesday night. 

Brewer (6-6, 1-0) was led by Evaiah Burrows, who scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Jacie Andrews added 13 points and six assists. 

Maggie Armstrong and Allie Scott each had nine points for Scottsboro (2-4, 0-1). 

Danville 51, West Morgan 38: Danville broke open a close game in the fourth quarter, outscoring West Morgan 21-8 to pull away for a 51-38 victory Friday night. 

Danville (6-5, 1-1) was led by Emma Broadfoot, who scored a game-high 24 points, while Madison Cartee and Blayne Godfrey had eight points each. 

West Morgan (3-5, 0-2) was led by Karly Terry’s nine points and Brandy Hernandez’s eight points. 

BOYS 

Scottsboro 61, Brewer 55: Brewer dropped its opening game in area play to Scottsboro Tuesday by a 61-55 score. 

Brewer (4-6, 0-1) was led by three players who finished in double digits. Matt Kempson scored 13 points, while Kris Bramlett had 12 points, and Jake Lawrence added 10. 

Scottsboro (7-1, 1-0) was led by Jacob Cooper, who scored a game-high 17 points. 

West Morgan 67, Danville 62: Danville dropped a heart-breaker to West Morgan Friday night, falling 67-62. 

Danville (6-3, 1-1) was led by Wren Cole, who finished with a game-high 33 points. 

West Morgan (5-3, 1-1) was led by Ashton Owens, who finished with 25 points, and Carson Muse, who added 19 points.
